Letter from the Pastor
Some deny the existence of hell such as Jehovah witness, Seventh day Adventist, Scientology, new age. Some believe hell is real but it won’t be that bad & some think of hell as nothingness. So what does the Bible teach when it comes to Hell? Luke 12:4-5: #1: “Hell or Hades is a very real place” Hell is not a myth! Psalm 9:17, Daniel 12:2, Revelation 20:15. The greatest preacher on hell & damnation who ever lived was not Jonathan Edwards, Billy Sunday, Billy Graham Charles Stanley or even the disciples, it was Jesus Christ himself. #2: "Hell is an eternal place" Hell is not like the mythological place called purgatory. Luke 16:26 “And besides this, between Abraham, Lazarus & you, a great chasm has been set in place so that those who want to go from here cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us” Once in hell, always in hell & once in heaven, always in heaven. #3: “Hell is a place of suffering & agony” We’re told in Luke 16:23-24that hell is a place of emotional agony. I believe that Jesus uses the most awful symbols imaginable to describe what hell is like. Jesus used vivid, terrifying images to describe the destination of sinners, shocking & scaring his audience with frighteningly graphic metaphors to get our attention of the seriousness of ending up in hell. #4: “Hell is necessary” True justice demands there be a hell. A: Hell is necessary because Jesus talked about it more than any of biblical authors. B: It’s necessary because it shows how infinitely dependent we are on God for everything. C: It’s necessary because it unveils the seriousness & danger of living life for ourselves. See, without the final judgment & punishment, there is no justice & we know that God is a JUST God! Isaiah 30:18, Deuteronomy 32:4, Palm 146:7, Psalm 89:14. Think about it, without hell, the greatest criminals of history (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Bin Laden & Saddam Hussein, got away with it. Hitler, Stalin & Mao among others were never held accountable for killing the tens of millions of human beings they slaughtered! #5: “Hell is a place of Choice” The most important thing for people to understand about hell is that it’s a place where people go as a result of the choices we make in this life. People ask “How can a loving God send good people to hell?” The answer is simple, we ultimately have the choice to accept the gospel of Jesus or not. Romans 1:18-20.
See, we all have a choice & it’s really not that hard simply choose to accept God’s message or reject it, it’s that simple.
