Matthew 7:20-23
Are you a follower of Jesus? For a lot of us as Christians we dismiss this question because it almost feels redundant or unnecessary. “Of course I’m a Christian. I filled all the squares. I walked the aisle, I shook the hand of the preacher, I said the sinner’s prayer, I've been dunked in the baptismal pool" These are good things & they are all important but is that all there is to being a Christian? If we were put on trial for being a Christian, what is the evidence that will convict us? What do we show the world? Having the Jesus Fish on the back of the car? Going to church regularly? Owning more than 3 Bibles? Having a praise song for the ringtone on my cell phone? My picture in the church directory? Listening to Christian Radio in my car? Some may even say, “I teach Sunday School.” Others may say "I’m a deacon, I chair numerous church committees, I give regularly and give to all the special offerings during the year." Some even make the claim, "I vote republican as evidence of being Christian" The real indicator of life that has been saved by the grace of God is a life that is changed. A life that reflects a relationship with the savior. The simple fact is that Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. A father & son arrived in a small western town looking for an uncle whom they had never seen. Suddenly the father pointing across the square to a man who was walking away from them, exclaimed, “There goes my uncle!” His son asked, “How do you know when you have not seen him before? “Son, I know him because he walks exactly like my father” If we walk in the Spirit, the world should know us by our walk. Jesus calls us to be fruit inspectors, to spot false teachers & prophets. But what about us? What kind of fruits are we producing? Calling Jesus “Lord, Lord” is not a bad thing. Our test for belonging to Jesus is not based on the church vocabulary we use. The key to today’s message is this: “but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” We have Bible studies & we discuss, debate, praise & admire the Word of God but it's not the theological discourses of the Word of God that matters, what matters is if we do what the Word of God says. James 1:22 "Be doers of the word & not hearers only" "What is the will of God?" The simple answer is the will of God 1st & foremost that humanity receives the gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ. The will of the FATHER is that we believe in the SON, without this foundation there is no salvation but also includes everything that God desires or wishes to happen in heaven & on earth. The scene that Jesus describes is one that we do not want to experience. Jesus does not want you to experience it either & that is why He shared it with us. Religion or being religious will not save us. Only through a relationship with Jesus will we be saved & that happen when we ask Jesus to be our Lord & Savior. Please, if today's message tells us anything, it is to make sure we know that we know we are saved. Thank you for watching our services & may God continue to Bless.
