In Luke 13:13-21 we’re told of a rich farmer whose fields were very fruitful so much so that there was not enough room to store everything. He tore down the barns & built new & bigger ones. After the new barns were built, he felt like he could sit back & relax, eat, drink & be merry. But God said to him “You fool! This night your soul will be required of you” This is how it is for anyone who stores up things for himself. Q: Are you too busy chasing the things of the world? There are two sharply contrasting philosophies of life. One philosophy of life is seen in the rich fool story. It is about going for what the world offers. The other philosophy of life is about going for what Christ offers. The idea that sin will satisfy you is a lie, you will never be satisfied with sin. Someone say’s “Well if I just have 1more party, that will be enough, that would do it for me but it never is, never does. Read Mark 8:34-38: There are many people who waste their lives. They say things like “I’m going to live my life first.” “I’m going to have fun, I’m going to party, I’m going to enjoy my life & then when I’ve had my fun then I’ll settle down & I’ll finally come to Church! Only that day never gets here! ! Mark 10:21-22 says “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him & said to him, ‘One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatever you have & give to the poor & you will have treasure in heaven & come take up the cross & follow Me but he was sad at this word & went away sorrowful for he had great possessions.” This young man was not able to live a life of sacrifice & take up his cross & follow Jesus because he held on to a life of worldly possessions. His world & his life consisted of stuff & here in America it seems that we just can’t get enough stuff.
The pufferfish looks about as threatening as a pet goldfish but it carries deadly toxins that can kill a person after just a few bites. Every year several people in Japan die from eating this unique fish delicacy & many others get sick. The danger is so great that Japanese chefs must receive years of training to learn the intricate skills of removing the lethal toxin before they can be certified to serve puffer. Flirting with sin is appealing but not only is it foolish, it can be fatal. The life you live & the choices you make today could very well have eternal implications. If you reject the Lord today & die in your sin, hell will be your new home. There will be no second chances. The lost will not enter that heavenly city. Are you wasting your life by chasing the things of this world? Jesus will declare unto them, “Depart, I never knew you” Come today & receive true, abundant & everlasting life in Jesus!
